North West Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NWSPCA)
We are based in Ballina, County Mayo and are a Registered Charity (CHY 16067)
Welcome to the NWSPCA
The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?"
but rather, "Can they suffer?"
~ Jeremy Bentham
Who we are:
The NWSPCA was officially established in 2002, although it has been less formally working in Ballina and its surrounding areas for over 10 years. We are a non-profit charity, manned entirely by volunteers and are constantly working to promote animal welfare in the North West. We have rescued, vaccinated and re-homed thousands of dogs and cats and our neutering programme has prevented thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens being born.
We not only rescue domestic animals, but also offer assistance to horses, goats, hedgehogs, birds, donkeys and have also helped a pig! Any creature known to be in distress is never overlooked by us.
Our Aims
* To build an animal shelter
* To provide a low cost neutering clinic
Financially the NWSPCA depends totally on fundraising, sponsorship and our charity shop.
This year alone, we have rescued a staggering 900 dogs and some 771 cats.
As you may imagine, the running cost for such endeavors is rather steep. It costs 100K a year to keep things going. We constantly find ourselves under serious financial pressure; with our biggest expense being veterinary fees.
Fundraising Volunteers Needed Urgently
We desperately need help with all aspects of fundraising because, as with most charities, the current economic recession has really hit us really hard. We have more animals than ever in need of care and re-homing. If you could run an event or can help us in any way raise much needed funds, then please contact us on 096-76649.
Thank you for visiting our website, please take your time and browse. We certainly would welcome any comments or feedback that you might like to offer us.
